Senator Ted Kennedy (1932-2009)

I woke up this morning to the unexpected, yet expected, news that Senator Ted Kennedy had made his mortal transition, succumbing to a rare form of brain cancer. Despite quite a bit of "mess ups" in his career, Kennedy is hailed as the "Lion of the Senate" who championed such humanitarian causes as healthcare and civil rights. I have always been fascinated by men born of wealth who give much of their lives in defense of the poor. Anyone who knows the story of the Kennedy family knows that it is one filled with triumph and tragedy. But, no one denies that it is one of the most powerful dynasties in the history of America. Who would have ever thought that the Kennedy name would one day be used to help elect the first Black president of the United States of America. I think Ted Kennedy, despite his ups and downs, finished a strong race. Some have even called his final years a "victory lap."
