Check out the advertisement for a local community college American History course. This email was sent to me attached to a long letter by a Black scholar who believes this advertisement is insulting, misleading, disrespectful and insensitive to the Black community. I agreed 100% so I've been running it by others in the community and monitoring their initial reactions. Most agree that this photo, though it represents a true depiction of an aspect of our experience in America, is not a good representation of our contributions to the history of this country at all. I reached out to the Community College responsible for publishing this ad today and am awaiting an explanatory response. If I don't get one....well, you know how we do.
